Vikings draft Cal DE Trevor Guyton in 7th round

The Vikings wrapped up their 2012 draft by selecting California defensive end Trevor Guyton.

Guyton, 6 feet 3, 285 pounds, has the ability to play either inside or outside on the defensive line.  He recorded 47 tackles to go along with 5.5 sacks a season ago.  He finished his collegiate career with 94 tackles and 12 sacks.

Guyton was a Rivals three-star prospect.  He was recruited by Arizona St., Nebraska, Oregon and others.

Minnesota traded their third pick in the final round to the Tennessee Titans for a sixth-round pick in 2013.

NFL Player Comparison: Ray McDonald

"Hustle defender with a good bull rush inside can close and get home when quarterbacks leave the pocket. Praised for attitude and work ethic... Might be limited to one-gap systems. Agility isn't a question but misses tackles when he doesn't square and break down."

"Stout and thickly built. Engages quickly off the snap. Plays with leverage and generates power through his base. Able to generate a surge... Average range (minimal closing burst outside the box). Can play with better balance — is on the ground more than he should be."
