Vikings take kicker in Sixth-Round

The Minnesota Vikings have selected Georgia kicker Blair Walsh in the sixth round of the NFL draft (175th overall pick).

Walsh made 15 of 23 field goal attempts his freshman season with a long of 52 yards.  As a sophomore, he was 20 of 22 with a long of 53 yards.  In his junior year, Walsh converted 20 of 23 field goal attempts with a long again of 53 yards.  Last season, though, Walsh struggled, converting only 21 of 35 attempts with a long of 56 yards. Walsh was 184 of 185 in his career on extra point attempts. He is the Southeastern Conference’s career scoring leader with 412 career points.

Walsh could be used as a kickoff specialist early in his career with the Vikings.

"Walsh was a good college kicker and has enough leg strength to make an NFL team, but he must improve the accuracy of his field goals."

"Strong leg — launches kicks with NFL-caliber lift and height... Senior season was his worst — struggled to dig himself out of a slump."
